Daniel was a very special person. God had mold and train Daniel to be a prophet for Him in this difficult time of Israel’s history. Israel was being carried off to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar. Israel was in ruined. Jerusalem was destroyed. Daniel was about 17 years old. Daniel was borne in royal line; highly educated and a very dedicated Jews. Daniel was chosen be trained in all the education of Babylon; if he passed, Daniel would have a job in the Babylonian government.
The first thing that Babylon did was to enforced Babylon culture onto their captives and ensured all captives would follow the Babylonian culture and forget their own culture. It was within this context the story began. If Daniel was to be successful in Babylon, Daniel needs to adopt the Babylonian culture and excel in the Babylonian culture. The Babylonian culture would violate Daniel’s Jewish’s up rearing education. For a 17 years old young man, no family and just saw their country being destroyed, what is ahead for him. Daniel now lives in a foreign country; would there be a future for him. What would the future look like? Daniel has no answer.
What Daniel has is his believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Daniel knows that God is still in control no matter what circumstances Daniel is in. God will watch over him. Yes, Daniel has the ability to adopt to Babylonian culture and most likely excel. Daniel believes that Israel is God’s chosen people and God is still love Israel. His believes in God and thus this resolution was from his heart. Daniel still do not know what tomorrow will be like but he believes in God. Daniel knows that God will care for him and Israel.
In 2025 , God will watch over each of us just like He watches Daniel. What we need to do is to ensure our heart is solely on Him. I pray that all of us will have the heart of Daniel.
