Is it possible to find a weather app that is always accurate? I find myself getting up each morning, checking the weather for the week trying to plan my life. But the reality is that it still rains when it is not supposed to rain and it snows when it is not supposed to snow. How much time do we spend discussing the weather for tomorrow?
I have learned that I need to have an “Abraham” mentality that we find in Matthew 6:34, “do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will take care of itself”. Abraham had this mentality when he left his home for a new land. Abraham had this mentality when he believed and was counted as righteous. Abraham had this mentality when he prepared to sacrifice his son. We also see when he forgot this truth when he told kings that Sarah was his sister.
This truth does not mean that we do not plan. In our Global Missions we have budgets and planning for growing our support of Global Missions. But we do this fully realizing that we need to only worry about today and plan for tomorrow. When we live this truth we will not set aside living righteously because of fear. When we live this truth we will be prepared to sacrifice today what God tells us to sacrifice even those things most dear to us.
My friends, lets live this year with a Matthew 6:34 mentality. Then we can stop worrying about the weather.
