Barry was born in Taiwan and attended Taiwan Theological College & Seminary (1987-1994) where he graduated with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Divinity in Religion degrees. In 1996, Barry was ordained pastor and since 2008, was trained in Pastoral Caring and Counseling. His official pastoral assignments include 5 years at the Chaplain of Mennonite Christian Hospital and the Puli Christian Hospital in Taiwan, which involves working with terminally-ill cancer patients in hospice care.

Barry is currently responsible for the Caring Ministry at Oversea Chinese Mission. He is also enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Logos Evangelical Seminary.
